Sri Lanka’s Election Fee Chairman Nimal Punchihewa on Monday shot down reviews of India’s Bharatiya Janata Get together (BJP) planning to arrange a political unit within the island nation, saying the nation’s electoral legislation doesn’t allow such an association.
“Any Sri Lankan political get together or group is permitted to have exterior hyperlinks with any get together or group abroad. However, our electoral legal guidelines don’t allow abroad political events to work right here,” Mr Punchihewa informed reporters.
Mr Punchihewa’s feedback got here after media reviews quoted Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb as saying that the BJP was planning to increase its footprint in Sri Lanka and Nepal.
